I am a British artist printmaker based in the North York Moors in England. Inspired by organic shapes and forms, I explore natural patterns in joyful and vibrant colour. Pattern and form are captured and re-imagined in varied processes such as painting, monoprint, screenprint, woodcut, etching and drypoint. These are combined with diverse media such as collage, chine collé, gouache and acrylic inks. My direction as an artist is to observe and record the incredible creativity found everywhere in the natural world around me.
Currently, I’m captivated by ephemeral ice patterns, that bear witness to unique and magical moments in time. Ice formed overnight has melted by lunchtime, the patterns pointing to the infinite creative possibilities of our universe.
By contrast, my reworking of vintage maps of the Moors, highlight the forms in the landscape carved out by the ice over millennia. The solitary experience of walking this landscape, reminds me of the enormity of the 'oneness’ that I believe we are all part of. I find the beauty of the natural world to be a life-affirming expression of universal consciousness.
I studied History of Art at UCL 1988-92 but life took me in other directions - in 2020 I completed a foundational year at York College in Art & Design then went on to study printmaking at Hot Bed Press in Manchester. A lot of my work isn’t yet shown on this website - please get in touch if you would like to see more.
